Temporary Assistant Technical Advisor – Sustainability & Net Zero

Location: Gravesend, Kent 

Hours: 35 hours per week

Pay: £20.18 per hour (£36,721 per annum equivalent)

Contract: Temporary, starting as soon as possible until at least mid-November, with the possibility of extension

We are looking for a Temporary Assistant Technical Advisor to join our Sustainability and Net Zero team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a general understanding of environmental considerations, or a degree (or equivalent) in an environmental or science-related field, to gain valuable experience supporting a range of environmental projects and activities.

About the Role

Working as part of the Sustainability and Net Zero team, you will provide technical and administrative support across a variety of environmental activities. The role will involve working with colleagues, engineers, members of the public and external organisations.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor the Environment team’s shared inbox and other team inboxes, allocating tasks such as river works licensing consultations, external queries and internal requests.
• Support the delivery of data collection and site visits, including air quality monitoring and environmental monitoring calibration visits alongside engineers.
• Lead on environmental assessments for low-risk and temporary river works licence applications.
• Support the administrative coordination of team projects, including overseeing the restructuring and organisation of files within the department’s SharePoint site.
• Save and upload relevant environmental data to designated online databases and team folders.
• Respond to public and internal enquiries received through the team’s shared inbox.
• Provide general support to the Sustainability and Net Zero team as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• A general understanding or interest in environmental issues and sustainability.
• Ideally, a degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental, scientific or related field.
• Good organisational and administrative skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• A willingness to learn and develop knowledge across a range of environmental topics.

This is a temporary opportunity starting as soon as possible, with the position running until at least mid-November and the possibility of being extended beyond this date.
