Temporary HR Administrator

Location: Milton Keynes

Hours: Full Time - Monday to Friday

Contract: Temporary - Immediate Start

Are you an organised, detail-oriented and people-focused HR professional looking for your next opportunity?

We are looking for a HR Administrator to join a busy and collaborative People Team within a well-established retail business. This is a fantastic opportunity to support a fast-paced HR function, helping to deliver an excellent employee experience while ensuring people processes run smoothly, accurately and efficiently.

You will act as a key point of contact for employee and manager queries, supporting a wide range of HR administration activities across the employee lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be proactive, customer-focused and comfortable managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

About the role:

Working closely with the People Operations Manager and wider HR team, you will support day-to-day people operations, maintain accurate employee records, coordinate onboarding activities and assist with payroll, benefits and compliance processes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the first point of contact for employee and manager queries relating to HR policies, annual leave, absence, benefits and people systems.
  • Manage the end-to-end onboarding process, including preparing contracts, coordinating background checks and ensuring all pre-employment requirements are completed.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems, carrying out regular data updates, uploads and audits.
  • Support payroll accuracy by recording and reconciling absence data across HR systems and identifying discrepancies.
  • Administer employee benefits, including Cycle to Work, season ticket loans, healthcare plans and eye care vouchers.
  • Support Right to Work checks and monitor expiring documentation, following up with employees and managers as required.
  • Prepare employment-related documentation, including reference letters and probation confirmation letters.
  • Assist with supplier onboarding, invoice processing and general People Team administration.
  • Contribute to process improvements, helping to streamline workflows, improve data accuracy and support the efficient delivery of HR services.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • At least 12 months' experience working within a busy HR or People function.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a good level of numeracy, with confidence handling employee data.
  • Experience using HR systems and maintaining accurate records; knowledge of HRIS platforms, particularly People XD, would be advantageous.
  • Previous exposure to payroll administration or payroll-related processes would be beneficial.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to support employees and managers at all levels.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach, with a willingness to learn and identify opportunities to improve processes.
  • CIPD qualification or part-qualification would be desirable but is not essential.

What's on Offer?

  • The opportunity to join a well-established and recognised retail business.
  • Experience within a collaborative and supportive People Team.
  • Exposure to a broad range of HR and People Operations activities.
  • The opportunity to develop your HR administration skills within a fast-paced environment.
  • A varied temporary assignment where you can make a real contribution to the employee experience.

If you're an organised and people-focused HR professional who enjoys helping others, keeping processes running smoothly and working as part of a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you!
