Hays Education are seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join a welcoming school in Sunderland on a long-term temporary basis, starting as soon as possible.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker, facilities assistant, or site supervisor who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented school environment.

Working Hours

• Monday to Thursday: 7:00am to 3:00pm
• Friday: 7:00am to 2:30pm

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school premises each day
• Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repair work
• Ensuring the school grounds and buildings are clean, safe, and well-maintained
• Conducting regular health and safety checks
• Supporting with room setups for meetings, events, and school activities
• Monitoring contractors and visitors on site
• Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with relevant contractors where required
• Assisting with emergency call-outs and site security when necessary

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance, or site management role
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures within a school or similar environment
• Practical DIY and maintenance skills
• The ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
• A flexible and proactive approach to work
• Excellent reliability and timekeeping
