An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Structural Engineer to join a leading specialist construction contractor delivering complex façade remediation, building envelope and structural refurbishment projects across the UK.
The business has built an outstanding reputation for delivering technically challenging, high-value projects within the residential, commercial and public sectors. With a strong emphasis on safety, quality and engineering excellence, they provide innovative solutions for external wall remediation, structural alterations and temporary works on occupied and live environments.
Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are looking to appoint a Structural Engineer with a strong background in Temporary Works to join their Design & Quality team.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Design & Quality, you will provide specialist structural engineering expertise across multiple live construction projects, taking responsibility for the design, review and approval of temporary works.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring temporary structures are designed safely, efficiently and in full compliance with current legislation, industry standards and best practice. You will work closely with project teams, designers, site managers and external consultants, providing engineering guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in temporary works, façade engineering or structural refurbishment who enjoys working within technically demanding construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design verification and approval of temporary works across multiple construction projects.
Carry out structural assessments, calculations and engineering reviews for temporary works solutions.
Undertake wind loading calculations and structural analysis for temporary structures.
Review scaffold loading, temporary access systems, hoardings and associated support structures.
Ensure all temporary works comply with current British Standards, BS 5975, CDM Regulations and industry best practice.
Provide technical support and engineering advice to operational teams throughout project delivery.
Work collaboratively with design consultants, temporary works designers and project stakeholders.
Maintain comprehensive engineering records and ensure full traceability of design information throughout each project.
Support the implementation of Building Safety legislation and the Golden Thread of Information across all projects.
Review engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation.
Identify engineering risks and develop practical, compliant solutions.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Design & Quality department.
Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and promoting professional development.
Maintain awareness of changes to legislation, engineering standards and industry guidance.
Requirements
Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Previous experience within temporary works, structural engineering or façade engineering.
Strong understanding of temporary works design principles and structural analysis.
Experience carrying out engineering calculations and reviewing technical designs.
Knowledge of BS 5975, CDM Regulations and current structural engineering standards.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience
Experience working on façade remediation, cladding, structural refurbishment or major construction projects.
Knowledge of Building Safety legislation and the Golden Thread of Information.
Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) experience or equivalent knowledge.
Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or IStructE).
