Test Technician - Heavy Engineering

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £45,281 per annum (including shift allowance) | £21.77 per hour

CDM Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Test Technician to join a leading heavy engineering manufacturer based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a modern manufacturing facility where you will be responsible for the final testing and inspection of complex engineered products before they leave the factory. The role offers long-term stability, industry-leading training and the opportunity to develop specialist skills in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and fibre optic testing.

The Role

As a Test Technician, you will carry out the final commissioning and testing of completed systems, ensuring every product meets the highest quality standards before dispatch.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Final testing of completed engineering systems
• Electrical continuity testing
• Testing of fibre optic systems
• Inspection and testing of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Hydrostatic high-pressure testing
• Recording test results and ensuring quality standards are met
• Identifying and reporting any faults or issues before products are released

This is a varied role where quality is prioritised over production speed, allowing technicians to carry out thorough testing and inspections.

Full Training Provided

Our client is committed to developing their workforce and offers an extensive training programme of up to two years, giving you the opportunity to become fully trained in a wide range of specialist testing procedures, including:

• Electrical testing
• Fibre optic testing
• Hydraulic testing
• Pneumatic system testing
• Hydrostatic pressure testing

Previous experience with every testing method is not essential, as full training will be provided.

The Working Environment

Although this is a heavy engineering manufacturing environment, the facility is modern, exceptionally clean, organised and surprisingly quiet. The pace of work is steady, allowing technicians to focus on producing high-quality work rather than working under constant production pressure.

You'll work within a small, experienced team where you're trusted to manage your own workload without unnecessary micromanagement.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates with previous experience in roles such as:

• Test Technician
• Electrical Technician
• Mechanical Technician
• Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Engineer
• Electrical or Mechanical Fitter
• Production or Manufacturing Technician
• Commissioning Technician
• Service Engineer
• Assembly Technician
• Any similar engineering or manufacturing role

Ideally, you'll have several years' experience within manufacturing, heavy engineering, maintenance or a similar engineering environment and be comfortable working from engineering procedures and carrying out detailed testing and inspections.

Shift Pattern

Continental shift pattern with no weekend working, providing an excellent work/life balance.

Day Shift: 6:45am - 6:45pm

Night Shift: 6:45pm - 6:45am

Salary & Benefits

• £44,012 per annum (including shift allowance)
• £21.16 per hour
