The job

Due to increased demand, NP Aerospace is continuing to grow its sewing and textiles team in Coventry.

As a Textile Cutter, also known as a Process Operator Cutter, you will work in a busy production cell preparing, measuring and cutting fabrics and specialist materials used across our defence and personal protection products. You will follow the production plan set by your Team Leader and work from clear Manufacturing Instructions, patterns, templates and quality standards.

Accuracy, material control and traceability are essential, as the quality of the cutting process directly affects sewing efficiency, finished product quality and delivery performance. You will work closely with Sewing Operators, the Textile Production Team Leader and Quality colleagues to ensure materials are prepared safely, accurately and on time.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you will complete a range of material preparation, cutting and inspection activities within a busy production environment. The key duties and responsibilities are outlined below:

  1. Receive, identify and prepare textile materials required for each production workstream.
  2. Check material type, colour, batch information and quantity against Manufacturing Instructions, production documentation and job requirements.
  3. Lay out fabric and specialist materials correctly on cutting tables, ensuring the material is positioned accurately and safely.
  4. Measure, mark and cut materials using approved patterns, templates and cutting instructions.
  5. Operate manual and powered cutting equipment safely where trained and authorised to do so.
  6. Ensure cut components meet the required dimensions, shape, orientation and quality standards.
  7. Clearly identify, label and organise cut components before they are issued to the sewing team.
  8. Maintain material and batch traceability throughout the cutting process.
  9. Inspect materials before and after cutting, identifying defects, damage or inconsistencies and reporting concerns promptly.
  10. Minimise material waste through accurate cutting, careful preparation and effective use of layouts and patterns.
  11. Record production, material usage, scrap and traceability information accurately and on time.
  12. Work closely with Sewing Operators and the Textile Production Team Leader to ensure cut components are available in line with production priorities.
  13. Maintain a clean, organised and safe cutting area, including appropriate storage of tools, templates and materials.
  14. Follow all Manufacturing Instructions, quality procedures, health and safety requirements and security policies.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience cutting fabrics, textiles, leather, foam or other flexible materials within a production, manufacturing or similar practical environment.
  • Experience measuring, marking and cutting materials accurately using patterns, templates or written instructions.
  • Able to identify and check materials against production documentation, including material type, colour, quantity and batch information.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to inspect materials and cut components and identify quality concerns.
  • Confident using manual cutting tools safely and accurately.
  • Able to follow written and verbal Manufacturing Instructions, including safety requirements and accurate record keeping.
  • Able to record production, material usage, scrap and traceability information accurately.
  • Reliable, organised and able to work effectively as part of a busy production team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working as a Textile Cutter, Fabric Cutter or Cutting Room Operator.
  • Experience using powered or industrial textile cutting equipment.
  • Experience cutting technical fabrics, protective materials or products requiring high standards of quality and traceability.
  • Experience working to production targets while minimising material waste.
  • Experience within clothing, upholstery, automotive trim, protective equipment or another textile manufacturing environment.
