Wire Erosion and Spark Erosion

Location: Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
Commutable from: Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton, Chesterfield and Nottingham
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus shift allowance and overtime
Hours: Monday to Friday 07:30 - 16:00
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Opportunity

A well-established engineering company providing specialist solutions to the aerospace industry is looking to recruit an experienced EDM Toolmaker.

This is a varied role involving EDM Wire Erosion, Spark Erosion, fast-hole drilling and traditional machining to manufacture mould tools, jigs, fixtures and development components.

The Role

The EDM Toolmaker will manufacture and modify injection mould tools while producing jigs and fixtures to support production teams across the business.

You will work from engineering drawings, manufacture components to the required standards and help resolve mechanical and manufacturing issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set and operate EDM CNC Wire Erosion and Spark Erosion machines.
  • Operate fast-hole drilling machines.
  • Manufacture and modify injection mould tools from engineering drawings.
  • Produce jigs and fixtures to support production.
  • Manufacture trial and development components.
  • Operate manual mills, lathes and surface grinders when required.
  • Test, evaluate and document component trials.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical and manufacturing issues.
  • Complete Works Order administration accurately.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and housekeeping duties.
  • Support and provide guidance to apprentices when required.
  • Follow all quality, audit and Health & Safety procedures.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous toolmaking experience.
  • Experience operating EDM Wire Erosion and/or Spark Erosion machines.
  • Time-served apprenticeship or HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of traditional machining and fitting practices.
  • Experience using manual mills, lathes and surface grinders.
  • General knowledge of moulding and injection mould tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
