Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be working with a leading manufacturing business who are looking to recruit an experienced Toolmaker to join their Toolroom team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an apprentice-trained Toolmaker with strong CNC machining, programming and tooling experience to join an established engineering environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacture, repair and maintenance of tooling, gauges and fixtures, while also providing technical support across Engineering, Manufacturing and Operations.

The Role

As a Toolmaker, you will be responsible for designing and manufacturing tooling, gauges and fixtures to meet customer and business requirements, working to tight tolerances and agreed deadlines.

You will be expected to work confidently across a range of machining and toolmaking disciplines, with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manufacture, repair and maintain tooling, gauges and fixtures to required specifications.
  • Set, operate and programme CNC machinery, including milling machines, lathes and surface grinders.
  • Undertake CAD/CAM programming and manual design work.
  • Carry out bench fitting and tool repair to a high standard.
  • Work to tight engineering tolerances and specifications.
  • Inspect completed components and ensure they meet drawing and quality requirements.
  • Undertake spark erosion and wire erosion activities where required.
  • Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
  • Support Engineering and Manufacturing with tooling-related technical issues.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions when engineering or manufacturing issues arise.
  • Review manufacturing methods and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and cost.
  • Produce and maintain relevant manufacturing documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Support the introduction of new manufacturing methods, technologies and equipment.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Production to develop improved methods of manufacture.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
  • Work flexibly across the Toolroom to maximise machine and task utilisation.

 

What We're Looking For

The ideal Toolmaker will have:

  • Completed an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent toolmaking qualification.
  • Proven experience working within a toolroom/toolmaking environment.
  • Strong CNC setting, operating and programming experience.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming.
  • The ability to work confidently from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience of machining to tight tolerances.
  • Strong bench fitting and tool repair skills.
  • Experience across multiple machining disciplines.
  • A good understanding of inspection and metrology.
  • Experience with grinding, gauges and tooling manufacture.
  • Experience with spark or wire erosion would be advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to learning new skills and manufacturing techniques.
