Toolmaker – Manual or CNC Peterborough | £16.00–£20.00 per hour | Permanent | Day shift | Overtime available

An established specialist engineering company in Peterborough is looking to appoint an experienced Toolmaker to join its skilled manufacturing team. Applications are welcomed from candidates with either manual or CNC machining experience. You do not need to have experience across every type of machinery; the position can be tailored to make the best use of your existing skills.

The role
Working from engineering drawings and customer specifications, you will manufacture, modify, repair and maintain precision tooling and engineered components. Depending on your experience, your responsibilities may include:
  • Manufacturing precision tools, moulds, fixtures and components.
  • Operating manual or CNC milling, turning and other machine tools.
  • Producing one-off and small-batch components to tight tolerances.
  • Carrying out tooling modifications, repairs and refurbishment work.
  • Setting and operating machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
  • Inspecting completed components using precision measuring equipment.
  • Identifying and resolving machining, tooling and dimensional issues.
  • Working closely with design, manufacturing and assembly colleagues.
  • Ensuring completed work meets the required quality and delivery standards.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment.
The position offers varied engineering work rather than repetitive, high-volume production.

We are interested in hearing from experienced Toolmakers with either manual or CNC machining skills. You should have:
  • Previous experience as a Toolmaker, Precision Machinist or similarly skilled engineer.
  • Strong manual or CNC machining skills.
  • The ability to work accurately from engineering drawings.
  • Experience producing components to close tolerances.
  • A good understanding of engineering materials, machining methods and workshop practices.
  • Confidence using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • The ability to work independently and solve practical engineering problems.
  • A reliable and quality-focused approach.
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous, although you do not need to have all of them:
  • Manual milling or turning.
  • CNC milling or turning.
  • Mould-tool manufacture or repair.
  • Grinding, spark erosion or wire erosion.
  • CAD/CAM or offline programming.
  • One-off and small-batch precision engineering.
  • Manufacturing jigs, fixtures or special-purpose components.
Working hours
  • Monday to Thursday: 8:00am–5:00pm.
  • Friday: 8:00am–1:00pm.
  • Some flexibility around the standard working hours may be considered.
  • Additional overtime is available.
Salary and benefits
  • £16.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
  • Permanent position.
  • Regular overtime opportunities.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Annual leave increasing by one additional day for each completed year of service, up to 25 days.
  • Bank holidays in addition to annual leave.
  • Stable daytime working hours.
  • Early finish every Friday.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable engineering business offering varied and technically interesting work within a skilled manufacturing environment. Apply today for immediate consideration.
