Exciting Opportunity for a Traffic Engineer in East Yorkshire
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join a busy Local Authority transport team. This role will focus on the development and delivery of traffic management schemes and public transport improvements, helping to improve network safety, accessibility, and efficiency across the region.
Working alongside transport planners, engineers, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders, you will play a key role in delivering a range of traffic and bus-related schemes from initial concept through to implementation. You will be responsible for supporting the design, development, and management of projects that improve journey times, road safety, and sustainable transport options.
The main duties of the Traffic Engineer include:
·Developing and delivering traffic management schemes, including junction improvements, traffic calming, pedestrian improvements, and network optimisation projects.
·Supporting the delivery of bus priority schemes and public transport improvement projects.
·Preparing technical drawings, reports, estimates, and scheme documentation.
·Undertaking traffic assessments, site investigations, and feasibility studies.
·Working with consultants, contractors, internal teams, and external stakeholders to deliver projects successfully.
·Managing schemes from inception through to construction and completion.
·Liaising with elected members, residents, transport operators, and other stakeholders regarding scheme development and implementation.
·Ensuring schemes comply with relevant highways legislation, design standards, and safety requirements.
·Supporting consultation processes and responding to technical queries and public enquiries.
·Monitoring project progress, budgets, and programme delivery.
The Traffic Engineer will have key experience in:
·Delivering traffic engineering schemes within a Local Authority, consultancy, or highways environment.
·Experience working on traffic management, road safety, active travel, or public transport improvement schemes.
·Knowledge and understanding of bus priority measures and public transport infrastructure would be advantageous.
·Experience preparing technical reports, drawings, and scheme documentation.
·Understanding of relevant highways legislation, traffic regulations, and design standards.
·Experience liaising with stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and members of the public.
·Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
·Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
·Experience using relevant traffic engineering software and design packages would be beneficial.
·A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering, or a related discipline is desirable.
