About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to support the delivery of transport capital projects and traffic management schemes from concept through to design, consultation and implementation.
Working under the direction of a Traffic Engineering Lead, you will undertake technical assessments, site investigations, project administration and stakeholder engagement to support effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of traffic engineering and transport projects, including studies, investigations, design, consultation and site implementation.
- Undertake technical assessments, site reviews and risk assessments, developing practical engineering recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, briefing notes and project documentation, while maintaining accurate plans, registers, databases and records.
- Support the supervision of contracts and consultants, including monitoring costs, budgets and project progress.
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, internal teams, elected members, partners and members of the public regarding highway and traffic proposals.
- Respond to customer enquiries and complaints, providing appropriate technical advice and carrying out investigations where required.
- Apply relevant legislation, regulations, technical guidance and Codes of Practice, ensuring health, safety and compliance requirements are maintained.
- Work independently, prioritise competing workloads and deliver projects to agreed deadlines while promoting efficient use of resources and best value.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant experience in traffic, highway or transport engineering, preferably within a public sector environment.
- Practical experience delivering traffic management schemes or transport capital projects.
- Good knowledge of relevant highway and traffic legislation, standards, regulations and technical guidance.
- Experience undertaking technical investigations, site assessments and producing engineering recommendations and reports.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly.
- Experience working with contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Good understanding of health and safety, risk assessment and professional compliance requirements.
