Trainee HVAC Engineer

Permanent | Full-Time

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 + Van/Fuel Card
Hours: Monday–Friday | 7.30am – 5pm (includes travel time) + On-Call (1 in 5 weeks) + Regular Overtime
Location: Basildon | Mobile across East London, Harlow, Colchester, Ipswich and surrounding areas

Our client, a leading provider of integrated facilities management and infrastructure solutions is hiring for a Trainee Air Conditioning Engineer to join a dedicated facilities team supporting a national Shell forecourt contract.

We’re looking for an engineer with Level 2 Air Conditioning and F-Gas who is early in their career and keen to develop. With 6–12 months’ experience or recent qualification, you’ll join an experienced team offering ongoing support and development across a range of commercial AC systems.

You’ll carry out HVAC PPMs, servicing and reactive repairs across commercial sites throughout London, Essex and parts of Norfolk.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across Shell forecourt sites.
• Attend reactive maintenance and breakdowns, with support from the wider engineering team where required.
• Assist with fault finding, repairs and servicing of commercial air conditioning systems.
• Gain experience working on systems including Splits, VRF/VRV, AHUs and associated HVAC equipment.
• Support experienced engineers with remedial works, system upgrades and replacements.
• Complete F-Gas documentation and ensure job records are accurately maintained.
• Develop your electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Work independently as your experience develops, while having access to an experienced team for technical support.
• Travel across East London, Harlow, Colchester, Ipswich and surrounding areas.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Level 2 qualification in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration – essential.
• F-Gas Category 1 – essential.
• Some practical commercial air conditioning experience, ideally around 6–12 months, although newly qualified candidates with relevant hands-on experience will be considered.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within commercial air conditioning and HVAC.
• Good communication skills and a professional approach when working on customer sites.
• Willingness to travel across the contract area and participate in an on-call rota.
