Trainee Legal Cashier

Location: Northampton
Salary: Competitive
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time | Office-Based
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm

The Opportunity

I'm recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly regarded conveyancing firm seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Legal Cashier to join its growing team in Northampton.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop their career in legal accounts within a forward-thinking, technology-driven conveyancing practice. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided, enabling you to develop your knowledge of legal accounts procedures, financial reconciliations and the systems used within a busy legal environment.

Working closely with the conveyancing teams and wider business, you will play an important role in ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with relevant legal accounts regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn to use the firm's legal accounts software, Quill Pinpoint, and case management system, Intelliworks.
  • Develop an understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules and CLC regulations.
  • Assist with processing card payments, refunds, bank transfers and other financial transactions.
  • Support daily reconciliations relating to card payments, Land Registry fees, searches, Companies House transactions and indemnity policies.
  • Check completion packs against client ledgers, liaising with conveyancing teams to resolve missing documentation or discrepancies.
  • Assist with processing bank payments, preparing cheques for authorisation and arranging outgoing correspondence.
  • Review payment requests, electronic chits, bills and journals, ensuring information is accurate and complete.
  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries, providing professional support to colleagues.
  • Help identify and investigate reconciliation errors, chase outstanding balances and report discrepancies.
  • Learn to run and interpret financial reports, maintain accurate records and update spreadsheets where required.
  • Ensure accounts documentation is correctly filed and archived.
  • Develop the confidence to manage daily accounts tasks independently, taking responsibility for accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Follow company procedures designed to prevent fraud, minimise risk and maintain high standards of performance.
As your knowledge and experience develop, you will gradually take on greater responsibility for the day-to-day accounts function, with the aim of completing routine tasks independently.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, enthusiastic and keen to learn, with a genuine interest in developing a career in legal accounts.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Good numerical skills and confidence working with financial information.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced colleagues.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while developing your own initiative.
  • A commitment to accuracy, confidentiality and meeting deadlines.
Previous experience in legal accounts or a cashiering role would be advantageous but is not essential, provided you have the right attitude, aptitude and willingness to learn.

Why Join This Firm?

This is an opportunity to join a growing and forward-thinking conveyancing practice that genuinely values its people.

You'll benefit from:

  • A competitive salary.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing professional development.
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression.
  • The chance to learn from experienced professionals within a modern, technology-driven business.
  • A Christmas shutdown, allowing you to enjoy valuable time off over the festive period.
  • A positive workplace culture where teamwork, development and excellent client service are at the heart of everything they do.
How to Apply

If you're looking to start or develop your career in legal accounts and would welcome the opportunity to learn within a supportive, established and growing conveyancing firm, I would love to hear from you.
