The Role
Due to continued growth, an opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Manual Machinist to join a long-established engineering business specialising in the manufacture of high-quality machinery and precision components. Working within an established workshop team, the Trainee Manual Machinist will receive training and support to develop skills across manual machining, engineering drawings, quality checking and precision component production.
- Learning to operate manual machinery including lathes, milling machines, drills, presses and an NC band saw
- Supporting the production of precision components to required standards
- Learning to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Carrying out basic quality checks using calibrated measuring equipment
- Supporting adjustments to ensure work meets required quality standards
- Developing an understanding of machining techniques and workshop processes
- Assisting with basic troubleshooting and machine care
- Working closely with experienced machinists to build technical knowledge
- Maintaining good housekeeping and a clean, safe working environment
Requirements
The successful Trainee Manual Machinist will have a genuine interest in practical engineering, manufacturing or workshop-based work. Previous experience in a mechanical assembly, production, engineering, manufacturing or hands-on technical environment would be desirable, although full training will be provided. The ability to read engineering drawings, use hand tools or measuring equipment would be highly desirable. You will be practical, reliable, detail-focused and keen to learn a skilled trade within a supportive engineering environment. This role could suit someone who has worked as a Production Operative, Mechanical Assembler or Workshop Assistant.
