Trainee Quantity Surveyor – Special Projects (UK&I)
Location: Hillington, Glasgow
Salary: £28,000 per annum, DOE + Excellent Benefits!
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to be part of the growing Special Projects team, which will allow you to earn while you learn.
This role is an excellent opportunity to build a future-proof career in the fast-growing energy and infrastructure sector. Starting this September, we will fully support and sponsor your Degree Qualification.
You will attend Glasgow Caledonian University on a part time basis (1 day per week during term) to achieve your BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree.
For the rest of the week, you will gain hands-on, experience working alongside experienced commercial leaders on live, multi-million-pound energy transition projects (including MV/HV, BESS & Substations).
The Role and what you will be doing:
- Subcontract Management: Learn to assemble subcontract enquiry packages, issue tender documentation, and assist with processing monthly subcontractor payments.
- Cost Control & Measurement: Work alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors to track material/plant costs, record site progress, and measure project variations under standard NEC forms of contract.
- Site Operations: Participate in site visits to conduct physical measurements, shadow progress reviews, and support client payment applications.
- Commercial Reporting: Assist in updating Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) spreadsheets, maintaining accurate cost databases, and filing contractual correspondence.
- EPC Project Lifecycle: Collaborate across procurement, estimating, and site delivery teams to build a complete end-to-end understanding of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
- Tendering & Risk Support: Assist with pre-contract costings, prepare documentation and Bills of Quantities for major tenders, and help formulate commercial risk responses during early-stage contract reviews.
- Compliance: Ensure all activities strictly adhere to internal procedures, commercial guidelines, and health and safety protocols.
About You
- Academic Aptitude: Satisfy entry requirements for Glasgow Caledonian University’s BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying program starting in September.
- Numerical & PC Skills: Good foundation in mathematics, logical thinking, and basic proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel).
- Communication & Attitude: Confident communicator, strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and eager to learn the commercial trade
- Willing to travel periodically to UK/Ireland sites alongside the team. Full UK Driving Licence (Desirable)
