Our client is a precision engineering company and are looking to recruit a Trainee Sheet Metal Fabricator & Mechanical Fitter.

As Trainee Sheet Metal Fabricator & Mechanical Fitter you would develop competency in sheet metal fabrication and mechanical fitting techniques while supporting the manufacture and assembly of aerospace components to ensure the resulting product meets quality requirements within established production deadlines.

  • Learn and perform sheet metal fabrication activities under supervision.
  • Assist with forming, bending, drilling, trimming and finishing aerospace components.
  • Learn to assemble and fit mechanical and sheet metal assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Deliver output targets in line with work-to-lists and training objectives.
  • Interpret engineering planning documents, technical drawings and specification sheets, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) where provided.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures and measuring equipment safely and correctly.
  • Ensure equipment used is of sufficient quality to manufacture to customer specification, reporting any defects before use.
  • Ensure job cards are signed and stamped for prior operations before commencing work.
  • Accurately and consistently clock on and off all jobs.
  • Clean and ensure parts are of an acceptable standard before submitting to the next production stage.
  • Complete all aspects of related operational documentation accurately.
  • Support continuous improvement activities within the department.
  • Work towards achieving agreed training and development milestones.

Person Specification

  • A demonstrable interest in engineering, manufacturing or aerospace.
  • Willingness to undertake formal training and develop technical skills.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and learn to interpret engineering drawings and planning documents.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
