Transport Operations Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Transport Operations Manager to lead our transportation and logistics functions. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the end-to-end management of transportation activities, ensuring seamless coordination between the company and its clients. Your expertise will drive process improvements, optimize costs, and enhance service quality across all transportation operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence business efficiency while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily transportation operations, including the management of 40 trucks and 160 trailers.
• Coordinate between clients, customers and delivery addresses to ensure outstanding delivery service.
• Provide cover to the Transport Manager in absence or leave.
• Lead and deliver operational projects across the business.
• Support management with the growth of the business.
• Implementing and training staff on new innovative processes.
• Provide weekend and out-of-hours on-call cover as part of a shared rota, responding to urgent operational issues outside normal working hours.
• Support the preparation of quotes and tenders, and help build strong, lasting relationships with clients.

Specification

• Experience of working within Transport, managing a fleet and problem-solving logistical issues.
• Hands-on experience of having an Operators Licence is ideal but not essential.
• Holds the CPC in Road Haulage.
• Thorough knowledge of UK transport legislation, including drivers' hours rules, the Working Time Directive, and roadworthiness obligations.
• Previous project management experience is desirable, with the ability to plan, run, and deliver projects on time and to a defined scope alongside day-to-day operational responsibilities.
• Willingness to work some weekends and provide out-of-hours on-call cover as part of a shared rota.
