An established and growing manufacturing and distribution business is looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join its logistics team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and commercially aware transport professional to play a key role in co-ordinating the efficient delivery of products to customers across a wide geographic area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating transport activities, ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and in line with customer expectations.

The Role

As Transport Planner, you will take ownership of the day-to-day planning and coordination of deliveries, working closely with drivers, customers, warehouse and production teams, and external transport providers.

You will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems under pressure will be essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate daily delivery schedules and transport movements.
  • Allocate deliveries efficiently, taking account of vehicle capacity, delivery locations, driver availability, and customer requirements.
  • Optimise delivery routes to maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise unnecessary mileage and costs.
  • Liaise with drivers throughout the day to monitor progress and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Coordinate with internal production, warehouse, sales, and customer service teams to ensure orders are ready and delivered as planned.
  • Communicate proactively with customers regarding delivery arrangements, timings, and any changes or delays.
  • Manage last-minute changes and transport-related challenges in a calm and solution-focused manner.
  • Ensure all relevant transport and delivery documentation is accurate and maintained.
  • Work with external hauliers and transport partners where required.
  • Monitor delivery performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service levels.
  • Ensure transport activities are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, company procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting and performance monitoring.
  • Support the continuous improvement of transport planning processes and operational efficiency.
About You

You will ideally have previous experience in transport planning, logistics coordination, fleet planning, or a similar role, preferably within a manufacturing, distribution, or product-led environment.

You will be highly organised and able to manage multiple deliveries and competing priorities simultaneously. You will also have the confidence to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, from drivers and operational colleagues to customers and external suppliers.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, or delivery coordination.
  • Strong geographical knowledge and the ability to plan efficient delivery routes.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident dealing with customers, drivers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to react quickly to changing circumstances.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using transport, logistics, or planning systems.
  • A proactive and commercially aware approach to transport planning.
  • Understanding of relevant transport legislation and compliance requirements.
Desirable
  • Experience planning multi-drop deliveries.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle loading and capacity planning.
  • Experience using transport management or route planning software.
  • Knowledge of driver hours, vehicle regulations, and transport compliance.
  • Experience working with third-party logistics providers or external hauliers.
