Transport Planner

Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

£38,000 - £42,000

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established name in renewable energy and anaerobic digestion (AD) for a Transport Planner who knows how to keep things moving.

The Role

Digestate doesn't wait around. Spreading windows close, weather turns, land availability shifts - and when a tanker's stuck instead of on the road, it costs time, money, and goodwill with contractors who want solutions, not excuses.

That's where you come in.

Working closely with the Transport Manager, you'll take the lead on day-to-day scheduling, driver communication, and contractor coordination - making sure digestate logistics run safely, compliantly, and on time. You'll be the calm, organised voice at the end of the phone when plans change at short notice, and a genuine ambassador for the business in how you deal with drivers, contractors, and colleagues alike.

What You'll Be Doing

Planning & Scheduling

  • Help plan daily and weekly schedules for digestate tankers, bulk tipper/walking floor loads, and low-loader machinery moves
  • Build routes that keep vehicles working and downtime to a minimum, while respecting spreading windows, weather restrictions, and land-bank availability
  • Adjust schedules on the fly when breakdowns, weather, or contractor needs change the plan

Driver & Contractor Coordination

  • Be the first point of contact for internal drivers and external haulage contractors
  • Keep everyone in the loop with clear, timely communication on jobs and changes
  • Make sure site rules, health and safety, and legal requirements around digestate and waste haulage are followed
  • Help drivers work through delays, access issues, and operational queries

Keeping Things Running

  • Keep an eye on daily operations and jump in to solve problems as they crop up
  • Liaise with AD plant teams, spreading contractors, and drivers to coordinate collections and deliveries
  • Support drivers through breakdowns and get repairs organised with maintenance providers
  • Step up and take the reins on transport operations when the Transport Manager is on leave

Compliance & Records

  • Keep compliance documentation accurate - vehicle checks, maintenance records, and operational paperwork
  • Stay on top of environmental regulations, road transport law, and internal policy
  • Support KPI reporting, audits, and ongoing improvements to how things are done

What You'll Need

  • Good IT skills - Excel, Outlook, telematics systems, and transport planning software
  • A solid grasp of road transport legislation: WTD, drivers' hours, vehicle weights, operator licence requirements
  • Bonus points for experience with digestate handling, agricultural haulage, waste movements, or ABP regulations - though it's not essential
