About the Opportunity
Jackson Hogg are delighted to be partnering with a growing distributor in the appointment of a Transport Planner. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and expanding business, playing a key role in the planning and optimisation of transport operations across multiple depot locations.
The Role
As a Transport Planner, you will be responsible for the planning, optimisation and execution of delivery schedules across your allocated depots. Working closely with drivers, depot teams, sales and operational stakeholders, you will ensure customer requirements are met whilst maintaining fleet efficiency, compliance and operational performance.
The role requires strong organisational skills, commercial awareness and the ability to make informed decisions in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Planning & Route Optimisation
- Produce efficient and cost-effective daily delivery schedules.
- Optimise routes to maximise fleet utilisation and minimise mileage.
- Reduce empty running and improve vehicle productivity.
- Balance workloads across drivers and vehicles.
- Coordinate delivery schedules to meet customer requirements.
- Respond to changing operational demands and adjust plans accordingly.
Operational Performance
- Monitor daily transport performance against key operational KPIs.
- Analyse route performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across transport operations.
- Produce and maintain planning reports and operational data.
- Identify operational issues and recommend effective solutions.
- Work closely with depot and operational teams to improve efficiencies.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain awareness of Driver Hours regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience within a Transport Planner, Logistics Planner or Distribution Planning role.
- Experience planning multi-drop delivery operations.
- Strong geographical knowledge and route planning capability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and planning software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage changing priorities.
- Strong organisational and decision-making skills.
