Location: Selby area

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 DOE

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join a growing transport business within a commutable distance of Selby.

This is a busy, hands on planning role where you will be responsible for coordinating daily transport activity, planning routes, liaising with drivers and customers, and making sure the operation runs smoothly.

The Role

As Transport Planner, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating daily transport activity, making sure drivers, vehicles and loads are managed efficiently.

You will be working closely with drivers, customers, suppliers and internal teams, so strong communication and customer service skills are essential.

This is a role for someone who can think on their feet, manage changing priorities and deal with transport issues quickly and professionally.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate daily transport routes, journeys and loads
  • Schedule vehicles and drivers efficiently across the operation
  • Liaise with drivers throughout the day and provide operational support
  • Brief and debrief drivers where required
  • Communicate with customers and provide clear updates
  • Resolve delivery, planning and operational issues quickly and professionally
  • Manage changing priorities in a busy transport environment
  • Make sure transport resources are used effectively
  • Support compliance across driver hours, working time and vehicle requirements
  • Work closely with drivers, customers, suppliers and internal teams
  • Maintain accurate information across internal systems and Excel spreadsheets
  • Support vehicle and trailer availability for service and inspection requirements
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and key contacts
  • Provide a high level of customer service at all times
  • Support the wider transport team when required

 

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience as a Transport Planner, Traffic Planner, Transport Operator, Traffic Operator or similar
  • Strong route planning and scheduling experience
  • Experience working in a busy transport or logistics environment
  • Good geographical knowledge
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with drivers, customers and internal teams
  • A customer focused approach
  • Good problem solving skills
  • The ability to stay calm and professional when plans change
  • Good attention to detail
  • A proactive and hands on attitude
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • An understanding of transport compliance would be beneficial
