Help Young People Rebuild Confidence and Engagement

We're looking for a Trauma-Informed Mentor to support children and young people across West Sussex through personalised 1:1 mentoring.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who may have experienced significant barriers to education and require a consistent, trusted adult to help them build confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and positive engagement. Many of the young people we support benefit from a relationship-led approach that prioritises trust, safety, and understanding.

We're particularly interested in mentors who can support learners in:

  • Crawley
  • Worthing
  • Horsham
  • Chichester
  • Bognor Regis
  • Littlehampton

Location: West Sussex
Role: Trauma-Informed Mentor
Start Date: September
Hours: Flexible
Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour
Type: 1:1 Mentoring

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an educational setting, including mentoring, teaching, tutoring, learning support, teaching assistant, youth work, or similar roles
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Experience supporting children and young people with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs is desirable
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within West Sussex

Who You'll Support

You'll work with children and young people who may have:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • ADHD
  • Anxiety and school avoidance
  • EHCPs and additional educational needs
  • Experiences of trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or disrupted education

The focus of the role is to provide stability, encouragement, and positive mentoring that helps learners feel safe, engaged, and able to achieve their goals.
