Dependent on experience
We are recruiting for an experienced Manual Machinist / Turner / Miller to join the engineering team of an established UK manufacturing business.
This is a varied, hands-on role involving manual turning and milling, one-off component manufacture, machinery repair, mechanical fitting and engineering improvements.
You will work both in the engineering workshop and across the manufacturing site, producing and repairing components such as rollers, shafts, bushes, spacers and bearing housings.
This is not a production welding role. Strong manual machining experience is the key requirement. Welding and fabrication experience is useful but not essential, with training available.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Operating manual centre lathes and milling machines.
- Manufacturing and repairing one-off components.
- Producing parts from engineering drawings, sketches or existing components.
- Measuring components and working to practical engineering tolerances.
- Supporting machinery breakdowns where machining or fitting expertise is required.
- Mechanical fitting and assembly.
- Carrying out basic fabrication and MIG welding where required.
- Manufacturing guards, brackets, frameworks and conveyors.
- Supporting machinery modifications and improvement projects.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Maintaining high standards of health & safety and housekeeping.
- Time-served Manual Machinist, Turner/Miller, Toolroom Machinist or Mechanical Engineer.
- Strong experience using manual centre lathes and milling machines.
- Able to set up jobs independently and select appropriate tooling.
- Experience manufacturing or repairing components from drawings or existing samples.
- Confident measuring components and working to engineering tolerances.
- Experience with shafts, rollers, bushes, bearing housings or similar components.
- Mechanical fitting or industrial machinery repair experience.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills.
- Flexible and team-focused approach.
- MIG welding or fabrication experience.
- Manufacturing, FMCG or process industry experience.
- Forklift, MEWP or Abrasive Wheels certificates.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- £39,500 salary.
- 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays.
- Additional birthday holiday.
- Overtime opportunities.
- Company pension.
- Training and development opportunities.
- On-site parking.
- Long-term career opportunity within an established manufacturing business.
- Varied engineering work across machining, repairs, breakdowns, fitting and improvement projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, experienced Manual Machinist who enjoys one-off work, repairing machinery and solving engineering problems rather than repetitive production machining.
If you are confident on a manual lathe and milling machine and enjoy getting involved with the wider engineering side of a manufacturing operation, we'd like to hear from you.
