SEND Specialist Tutor

At Prospero Teaching, we work in partnership with local authorities, SEND teams, and schools across the North East to provide high-quality, personalised education for students with additional learning needs. We are currently looking for experienced SEND Specialist Tutors to support students on a 1:1 basis and in small group settings across Darlington.

The Opportunity

As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons that are tailored to each student's individual needs, abilities, and learning goals. You will support learners with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), adapting your teaching approach to help them build confidence, develop key skills, and make meaningful progress.

Alongside academic support, you will play an important role in providing consistency, encouragement, and structure for students who may have experienced barriers to education. By creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment, you will help students re-engage with learning and work towards achieving their full potential.

Contract/Position Details:

  • Location - Darlington

  • Start date - ASAP
  • Setting - either within the student's home or in the community (learning hub/library)
  • Duration - Until the pupil is able to find a suitable school placement
  • Contract type - Temporary

Your role with us:

  • Support students with SEND through individual and small group sessions, developing self-confidence, independence, practical life skills, community awareness, and basic food preparation.
  • Plan and deliver bespoke learning activities that meet individual needs and close gaps in learning.
  • Assess and review learner progress on an ongoing basis, sharing clear and constructive feedback with students and their families.
  • Establish a calm, positive, and inclusive learning space that encourages engagement and restores confidence in education.
  • Record daily attendance accurately and complete structured weekly reports in line with requirements.

Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:

  • Children related/Education qualification
  • Possess UK classroom teaching experience
  • Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
  • Have experience working with students with SEND including ASD, ADHD, GLD and challenging behaviours

To be eligible for this role, the potential SEND Specialist Tutor must:

  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
