Are you an experienced HSE professional who enjoys leading teams in complex, high-risk operational environments?
Would you like to take responsibility for a multi-site HSE function and help shape a more consistent approach across a growing ports and logistics operation?
We are working with a leading European logistics operator to recruit a UK Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, responsible for the day-to-day HSE function across three major UK locations in Killingholme, Purfleet and Liverpool.
Managing a team of seven HSE Advisors, you will provide visible HSE leadership across the UK operation, bringing greater consistency between sites while supporting the continued development of the organisation's safety culture.
The UK HSE Manager will:
- Lead and develop a team of seven HSE Advisors across three UK locations.
- Drive greater consistency in HSE standards, processes and ways of working across the UK operation.
- Build strong relationships with operational teams, providing practical HSE support and constructive challenge.
- Provide visible, hands-on HSE leadership across Killingholme, Purfleet and Liverpool.
- Support the management of a broad range of operational risks including cranes, lifting operations, LOLER, vessels, mooring, dangerous goods and equipment maintenance.
- Support major operational developments, including the commissioning and integration of new RTG cranes.
- Lead and support incident investigations, risk management, assurance and continuous improvement activities.
- Develop greater collaboration across the HSE team, creating one aligned UK function rather than separate site-based approaches.
- Work closely with senior leadership to identify emerging risks and continually improve HSE performance.
- Help establish a consistent UK HSE operating model with the potential to support the organisation's wider European operations in the future.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience managing and developing HSE professionals, with the confidence to lead an established team.
- A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Strong UK-based HSE experience within a complex, high-risk operational environment.
- Experience within logistics, ports or complex distribution would be particularly advantageous.
- Broader exposure to areas such as lifting operations, cranes, LOLER, dangerous goods, COMAH, rail/intermodal logistics or other high-hazard activities would be beneficial.
- Experience working across multiple sites and balancing competing operational priorities.
- A practical, pragmatic approach with the confidence to challenge operational decisions and have difficult conversations when required.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to engage both operational teams and experienced HSE professionals.
- The adaptability to understand and manage a varied and constantly changing operational risk profile.
- The flexibility to travel regularly between the organisation's UK sites.
