Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading energy company to recruit a Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement (12 months) to be based at its CCGT site in Kent or in North London.

The Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer role comes with a salary of £26,000 + benefits.

Responsibilities and duties of Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement role

Reporting to the Maintenance Strategy Team you will:

  • Support the planning and coordination of major outages and maintenance events, ensuring activities are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Assist in the delivery of small-scale engineering projects and plant modifications from concept through to implementation.
  • Contribute to the development of medium- and long-term asset strategies to improve plant reliability, performance, and lifecycle cost.
  • Support the creation and review of maintenance strategies for critical mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with engineering governance activities, including technical reviews, risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Analyse plant performance data and contribute to root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development of technical specifications, scopes of work, and tender documentation for engineering projects and contracts.
  • Work closely with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to support project delivery and outage readiness.
  • Participate in planning meetings and contribute to budget forecasting, resource planning, and project reporting.
  • Build an understanding of industry regulations, engineering standards, and asset management best practices within a safety-critical environment.


Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering and seeking a 12-month industrial placement between your second and third year of study.
  • A strong interest in power generation, energy infrastructure, or heavy industrial environments.
  • An interest in project management, outage planning, asset strategy, and engineering governance.
  • Full UK driving licence or willingness to travel between sites is desirable.
