My client is seeking an experienced Electrician to work underground on their mining project in North Yorkshire. 

The role of an Underground Electrician is to install, wire, maintain and perform preventative maintenance and repairs to electric equipment, some of which are noted below in all underground areas:

Lighting and electric/hydraulic equipment 

Phone systems and all mine communication systems 

PLC and other advanced or automation systems 

High Voltage and Low Voltage Power and control systems 

Fabricate when required electrical panels and other necessary Installation of electrical cables 

Installation of electrical apparatus

Time served apprenticeship in Electrical Maintenance / Engineering or a minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in the same. 

JIB Card 

Experience of working on Electrical Systems in a mining, tunneling or heavy industry environment.

Significant experience in an electrician’s role in an operational environment.

BS7671 – 18th Edition

2391-52 electrical test and inspection or equivalent desirable

First Aid experience / Qualification

You will have a broad understanding of The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Electrical Equipment Regulations 2016 and the British Standard BS 7671 - 18th Edition and you will know how this legislation should be applied to mechanical systems within the context of the project.

Experience in installation, commissioning, operation testing and maintenance of electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, cables and drives etc).

Relevant hazardous area experience is desirable.

Experience operating HV/ MT switchgear and associated infrastructure and control systems is desirable.

You will have a broad understanding of the 2014 Mining Regulations and how they impact your role.

Have undergone a recognised electrical training scheme, preferably an approved apprenticeship.

Evidence of Safe Isolation of electrical systems within the scope of your appointment and voltage restriction.

Awareness of Health and Safety on a Mining or Tunnelling site

Experience in the installation of low, medium, and high voltage installation and repairs and PPM Maintenance 

Ability to pass a safety critical medical and drugs and alcohol screenings. 

Role will be based on a rotating shift pattern as follows

9 days on, 6 days off, 9 nights on, 6 days off, 9 afters/evenings on 6 off and then return onto days.
