Job Purpose

To provide high-quality care and support to children and young people, helping them feel safe, valued, and supported. The Residential Support Worker will promote wellbeing, education, independence, and positive outcomes while acting as a positive role model and contributing to a stable, nurturing home environment.

General Duties

  • Support children in line with their care and placement plans.
  • Promote education, wellbeing, independence, and positive behaviour.
  • Build trusting relationships and support children to overcome challenges and trauma.
  • Ensure children are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and professionals.

Specific Duties

  • Act as a Key Worker for allocated children.
  • Support children to access education, healthcare, and community activities.
  • Promote safeguarding and protect children from harm.
  • Support therapeutic plans, behaviour management, and care planning.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Participate in daily household routines and activities.
  • Attend training, supervision, and team meetings.
  • Follow organisational policies, safeguarding requirements, and health and safety procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

Diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare or be willing to work towards it.

Experience

Working with trauma experienced children

Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team

Effective record-keeping skills and maintaining the confidentiality

Knowledge and Understanding

The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards for Children’s Homes, Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Data Protection Act 2018, and Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

Skill and Abilities

Able to drive company vehicles

Able to deal with challenging behaviour

Able to support children with complex needs

Able to be assertive and confident with children

Effective oral and written communication skills

Awareness of confidentiality and data protection

Awareness of child protection and safeguarding

Awareness of substance misuse and child exploitation

Ability to work in a team
