About the Role
Elite Search Associates are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and dedicated Waking Nights Support Worker to join a 3-bed children’s residential home in Milton Keynes, supporting children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people.
The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure and nurturing environment throughout the night, ensuring the young people receive consistent and high-quality care.
The Role
As a Waking Nights Support Worker, you will remain awake and alert throughout your shift and provide support to the young people as required.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality care and support to children and young people throughout the night.
- Maintaining a safe, calm and supportive environment within the home.
- Carrying out regular checks and monitoring the wellbeing of the young people.
- Responding appropriately to emotional distress, challenging behaviour or incidents.
- Providing reassurance and support when young people require assistance during the night.
- Following individual care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
- Completing accurate daily records, night reports and incident documentation.
- Identifying and reporting any safeguarding or welfare concerns.
- Ensuring the home remains clean, safe and appropriately maintained overnight.
- Providing clear and detailed handovers to the incoming day staff.
- Working effectively alongside the wider residential care team.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working in children’s residential care is essential
- Experience supporting children and young people with EBD, challenging behaviour or complex needs.
- A caring, patient and compassionate approach.
- The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Excellent observation and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and use initiative during waking night shifts.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Reliability, resilience and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
- The ability to commit to a 4 nights on, 4 nights off rota.
A Level 3 qualification in Children’s Residential Care or equivalent is highly desirable.
