Working Hours: Midnight till 9am, Monday to Friday.

Basic Annual Salary Range: £32,000 to £38,000 (annual profit share and bonuses are also available).

Equivalent Hourly Pay Rate: £15 to £18 per hour

Based just outside of Southampton (accessible by public transport)

Full-time temporary to permanent opportunity.

Job Overview:

Supervise the activity of the warehouse team to ensure the night shift's tasks are achieved on time. Ensure that all orders are picked, processed, invoiced, and packaged correctly, on time. Identify and resolve problems as they arise throughout the day and communicate with the Administration and Sales to resolve problems and issues. Ensure staff are always aware of what they are expected to do (and the reasons why). Plan the next day’s delivery loads.

Help apply an induction programme on the basic skills for new recruits. Help cross train staff in all warehouse disciplines. Assist with the purchasing of packing materials and other consumables, e.g. tools, gloves, saw blades, working to a pre-agreed budget. Help to make improvements in efficiency in the warehouse, regarding effective use of warehouse space, racking, machinery, and equipment. Assist and support the warehouse manager and assume responsibility in his absence.

Follow and apply the established warehouse systems (e.g. loading, off-loading, labelling, picking, collections etc.). Train warehouse personnel to follow established systems and procedures. Continually communicate these procedures to warehouse staff and regularly check to ensure they are being maintained. Liaise with Administration to ensure physical stock, locations etc. ties up exactly with computer stock records. Ensure warehouse teamwork within Service Centre’s IS09002 procedures. Regularly audit against ISO9002 procedures. Talk to staff when they have made mistakes.

Carry out regular audits in line with Health & Safety Policy. Regularly inspect the warehouse to ensure it is clean and tidy, that all stock is clearly labelled and safely stored. Ensure that the perimeter grounds are kept clean and tidy.

Assist with planned maintenance programme for all equipment. Carry out regular visual inspection on all machinery and guards to check in safe working order.

Loading vehicles for delivery in the order of the drops, ensuing that the vehicle is not over loaded or dangerously loaded. Unloading delivery vehicles quickly and safely.

You will need to complete an aptitude test as part of the interview process.

Essential Skill Requirements:

  • Planning and organising workloads for others to undertake, and the ability to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Operate warehouse systems that off-load, store, and distribute material in the most efficient and effective way.
  • Able to use own initiative to solve problems, as well as being able to seek advice from others.
  • Current supervisory experience, proven ability to give clear instructions, and to maintain discipline / company standards / and teamwork.
  • Involved in on-the-job-training, ensuring work colleagues are fully competent and can carry out their role safely.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Able to ensure your team works within health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Able to distinguish between different product types, communicate in English (written and verbal), read and follow detailed instructions.
  • Competent using computerised systems for warehouse management, inventory / stock, invoice, order pick lists, batch checking, and warehouse audits.
