Warehouse Operative

Squish Supply Ltd · Direct employer

About Squish
We make award-winning cold-pressed juice and cocktail mixers for some of the best names in hospitality, including the Ritz, the Savoy, and Harrods, and we’re growing fast.

It’s made at our own production site in Italy and comes into our warehouse at New Covent Garden Market, where every customer order is picked, packed, and checked. There are 16 of us, about half in the warehouse and half in the office.

You would be joining a well-organised and highly functional small team. What you do is visible and it matters.

The role
You’ll get customer orders picked, packed, and out of the door accurately and on time, and keep the warehouse and stock in good order while you do it.

Day to day that means:

  • Picking and packing customer orders
  • Operating a counterbalance forklift: loading, unloading, and moving stock and pallets
  • Handling customer collections and deliveries to other units on the market
  • Stock control and stock counts
  • Cleaning and tidying

What the day actually looks like

  • The shift start is 7:00, Monday to Friday. Arrive by 6:45.
  • Around 80% of the day is spent packing in our refrigerated warehouse area, which runs at around 5°C. We supply the thermal gear.
  • The work is physical. Regular lifting and moving of cases up to 6kg. Packing mixed pallets of juice by case.
  • Accuracy is vital. Stock checks are done at the beginning and end of every shift and every bottle is accounted for.
  • Half an hour lunch (unpaid)
  • The team is small, so reliable attendance is essential. One person missing is felt by everyone that day.
  • Finish 3:30pm

Plenty of people find this a good job precisely because of the shape of it: it’s early, it’s finished by half three, and there’s no split shift and no weekend rota.

Who does well here
Someone friendly and reliable who wants to get on with the job. It’s a small, tight-knit team, so there’s no politics or nonsense. There’s also nowhere to hide: people who don’t pull their weight are noticed straight away, and they don’t last.

If that sounds like the kind of place you want to work, you’ll probably like it here.

What we need from you
Essential:

  • At least 2 years in a warehouse or market environment
  • Hands-on experience driving a forklift
  • A track record of accurate packing – you need to have experience and a high degree of confidence in your ability to pack accurately at a good speed
  • A commute to New Covent Garden Market that works for a 7:00 start, every day
  • A reliable attendance record you’re happy for us to ask about
  • Enough written and spoken English to follow a pick list, a label spec, and a hygiene procedure, and to raise a problem clearly
  • Basic comfort with a phone or tablet for scanning and stock entries. We’ll train you on our systems
  • The right to work in the UK

Preferable:

  • A current counterbalance or reach forklift licence – if your licence has lapsed, or you’ve driven without ever being certified, still apply. We’ll pay for the training, the refresher, and the assessment.
