Our client, a freight forwarder is looking for a Warehouse Supervisor to join their office in Purfleet.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Warehouse Manager to oversee our clients freight handling, LCL (Less than Container Load) consolidation, container loading, and warehouse operations within a busy Shipping & Logistics environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of export freight, cargo handling, container utilisation, and warehouse management. They will be responsible for ensuring freight is received, inspected, measured, labelled, consolidated, and loaded efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and productivity.
This role combines operational leadership with administrative and customer-focused responsibilities and requires someone who is comfortable managing both warehouse activities and office-based logistics functions.
Warehouse Operations
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the warehouse.
- Supervise warehouse staff and loading teams.
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing freight is checked accurately against shipping documentation.
- Oversee cargo inspections, freight measurements, and weight verification.
- Ensure freight is correctly labelled, marked, and prepared for export.
- Maintain warehouse organisation, cleanliness, and health & safety standards.
- Monitor stock and freight movements within the warehouse.
LCL Consolidation & Cargo Management
- Plan and manage LCL shipments effectively.
- Consolidate freight from multiple customers into containers efficiently and safely.
- Ensure cargo compatibility and correct segregation of freight.
- Maximise container utilisation while maintaining cargo integrity and compliance requirements.
- Verify freight dimensions and cubic measurements for accurate shipping calculations.
- Ensure all cargo is prepared in accordance with customer and carrier requirements.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Warehouse Manager or Senior Warehouse Supervisor role within shipping, freight forwarding, or logistics.
- Strong knowledge of LCL cargo handling and consolidation processes.
- Extensive experience in container loading, load planning, and cargo securing.
- Understanding of export freight operations and shipping procedures.
- Ability to accurately measure, weigh, and assess freight.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and warehouse management systems.
- Excellent written communication skills with strong spelling and attention to detail.
- Experience leading and managing warehouse teams.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within a warehouse environment.
