The company are in the process of adding to their IT team by bringing in an experienced and knowledgeable Web Developer, this is an additional position and requires an individual who has drive and ambition to succeed in this fast paced role.

Web Developer Purpose

Develop, maintain and improve the company’s e-commerce websites, internal websites and business tools, with a primary focus on Shopify. Working within IT and closely with the Marketing team, the Web Developer will turn commercial and operational requirements into reliable, effective digital experiences.

The role will play a significant part in the migration from Magento to Shopify, supporting external delivery partners throughout planning, development, testing and launch. It will also support internal applications built primarily with Node.js and React or Vue.js front ends. We actively embrace AI-assisted development tools, including Cursor and GitHub Copilot, to improve development efficiency and support our internal projects. Candidates with experience using these tools are particularly welcome.

Web Developer Key responsibilities:

Shopify development and maintenance

• Develop and maintain Shopify themes, templates and functionality using Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Work closely with Marketing to deliver website enhancements, campaign landing pages, promotional content and improvements to the customer journey.
• Translate business and marketing requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Configure and support Shopify apps and integrations with business systems and third-party services.
• Improve website performance, accessibility, usability and technical SEO.
• Investigate and resolve issues affecting storefronts, checkout and connected systems.
• Support analytics and tracking requirements in collaboration with Marketing.
• Assess proposed apps and customisations for maintainability, security and performance.

Magento-to-Shopify Migration:

• Act as a key internal technical contributor, working closely with external partners responsible for delivering the migration.
• Help define requirements, review proposed solutions and identify technical dependencies and risks.
• Support the mapping, migration and validation of product, customer, order and other relevant data.
• Work with partners and internal teams to ensure integrations, website functionality and business processes operate correctly on Shopify.
• Carry out and coordinate testing, including functional testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing.
• Work with Marketing and delivery partners to address redirects, SEO, analytics and content requirements.
• Support launch preparation, cutover and post-launch issue resolution.
• Ensure external partners provide appropriate documentation, knowledge transfer and technical handover.

Internal websites and tools:

• Develop, maintain and support internal websites and business applications built primarily with Node.js, React and Vue.js.
• Assist with building and maintain APIs and integrations between internal tools and other systems.
• Work directly with colleagues to understand business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Troubleshoot application issues and deliver reliable, maintainable solutions.

Technical delivery and collaboration

• Work within IT to prioritise requests, estimate effort and communicate progress.
• Collaborate with Marketing to plan website changes and support commercial priorities.
• Review work delivered by external partners against agreed requirements and technical standards.
• Use version control, testing and controlled deployment processes to manage changes.
• Maintain technical documentation, including application setup, integrations and support procedures.
• Apply secure development practices and keep application dependencies up to date.

Web Developer Essential skills and experience

Hands-on experience developing, maintaining or customising Shopify stores.

Good working knowledge of Shopify theme development, Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Familiarity with Shopify apps, integrations and APIs, with a willingness to develop further technical knowledge.

Understanding of e-commerce processes, including product management, customer accounts, orders, payments and fulfilment.

Experience using Git or similar version control tools, alongside basic testing and debugging practices.

Understanding of responsive design, website performance, accessibility and secure development principles.

Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical colleagues, translating business requirements into practical website improvements.

Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to investigate issues and explain technical solutions clearly.

Willingness to learn new technologies, contribute to internal development projects and work across different systems as required.

Ability to manage priorities and balance ongoing website maintenance with project-based development.

Web Developer Desirable skills and experience

Experience with Shopify APIs, third-party integrations, custom app development, Shopify Plus or Shopify Flow.

Experience developing applications using Node.js and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue.js.

Familiarity with SQL, REST APIs, GraphQL and database-driven applications.

Experience migrating e-commerce platforms, particularly from Magento to Shopify.

Familiarity with Magento, its architecture and integrations.

Experience working with external development agencies or technical delivery partners.

Experience with data migration, validation and reconciliation.

Familiarity with cloud hosting, deployment processes and maintaining internal web applications.

Experience implementing website analytics, conversion tracking and technical SEO improvements.

Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar, with an understanding of code quality, security and responsible AI usage.

The Web Developer position is an office based role although occasional travel may be required, it is essential that you have a full driving license.

There is an extremely competitive salary on offer of circa £28K - £30K DOE.
