On behalf of our client, Rapid Resource is looking for a Weigh Scale Verification Technician to join the WSV Calibration Team at their staging facility in Holford Way, Birmingham.

This is a hands-on technical role involving the preparation, calibration, verification, testing and basic repair of retail weighing equipment prior to deployment to customer sites.

You will work as part of an established staging team, reporting to the Supervisors and Management Team.

Full training on the client's specific WSV processes and systems will be provided; however, we are looking for someone who is practical, technically minded, confident using hand tools and comfortable working with computers and detailed processes.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Raising pick requests for weighing scales and associated equipment using the RICO Trace system.
  • Breaking down delivered pallets and preparing equipment for processing.
  • Unboxing weighing scales and checking equipment before calibration.
  • Applying the appropriate SGS labels.
  • Fitting ancillary equipment where required, including Checkpoint, 2D Imager and Sensormatic kits.
  • Connecting scales to power and monitoring the required warm-up period.
  • Accurately completing digital recording sheets, including serial numbers, fitted equipment and calibration information.
  • Moving equipment to the calibration stations once ready.
  • Connecting scales to POS equipment and customer displays.
  • Calibrating and verifying weighing scales to the required SGS0120 standard.
  • Recording verification information using the client's online Weights & Measures system.
  • Applying final calibration seals and identification labels.
  • Completing Stage 2 testing, including test transactions and CRC receipts where required.
  • Completing the relevant online documentation.
  • Repacking calibrated equipment into the correct original packaging, ensuring serial numbers match.
  • Labelling completed equipment as calibrated and preparing it for storage or transfer to the staging team.

Fault Finding & Basic Repairs

You may also be required to:

Identify equipment that has faults or has failed verification.

Carry out basic Level 1 repairs where appropriate.

Refurbish previously used equipment, including cleaning and replacing faulty or missing parts.

Return repaired equipment to the WSV calibration process.

Submit Out of Box Failure (OBF) requests for faulty or damaged equipment.

Additional Duties

This is a flexible staging environment, so you will also be expected to:

Keep the WSV work area clean, organised and safe.

Assist with other project requirements when necessary.

Support other areas of the staging facility, which may include SCO staging, equipment branding, Clean Room and Boots Room activities.

Work proactively and assist other team members when your allocated tasks have been completed.

What We Are Looking For

You do not necessarily need previous weigh-scale calibration experience, but you should be practical, accurate and comfortable working with technical equipment.

The successful candidate will:

Be numerate, articulate and able to communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors and management.

Be confident using a PC and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.

Have good attention to detail and be comfortable completing digital records accurately.

Be self-motivated, enthusiastic and willing to learn new technical processes.

Be able to work effectively in a busy, fast-moving environment.

Be able to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.

Be comfortable carrying out repetitive technical tasks while maintaining the same level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the shift.

Have experience using general hand tools such as screwdrivers, files, snips, socket sets and spanners.

Be prepared to provide their own basic hand tools where required.

Have a basic understanding of workplace Health & Safety, manual handling and electrical safety.

Be comfortable using pallet trucks and handling equipment safely.

Be flexible and willing to move between different duties depending on operational requirements.

Have a positive, proactive attitude and a genuine willingness to get the job done.

Previous Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • EPOS / retail technology
  • Technical staging or configuration
  • Electronics or electrical equipment
  • Weighing equipment
  • Hardware installation
  • Equipment testing or calibration
  • Technical warehouse or production environments
  • Fault finding or basic equipment repair

Specific WSV training will be provided for the right candidate.

The role requires you to have a clear Basic DBS which will be carried out by Rapid Resource.  Please only apply if you are confident, you will pass the clearance process.
