Job Purpose
To carry out skilled welding and fabrication work to a high standard, following written instructions, technical drawings and specifications. The role requires the ability to work independently, use initiative, and support the delivery of a high-quality engineering and maintenance service. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake duties outside their core trade where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out welding and fabrication tasks to the required quality standards and specifications.
- Perform non-core engineering and maintenance activities when required.
- Work under the direction of the Line Manager while using initiative to complete assigned tasks.
- Prioritise workload to meet operational requirements and deadlines.
- Identify, report and document defects or issues discovered during work activities.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Use tools, equipment and materials safely, ensuring they are maintained and returned to their designated locations after use.
- Deliver work that meets agreed quality standards, ensuring non-core activities are checked for compliance where required.
- Enter and maintain accurate job and maintenance records using IT systems.
- Support colleagues and, where appropriate, provide guidance or instruction to others.
- Follow all health and safety policies, procedures and safe working practices.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- NVQ in Welding or an equivalent recognised welding qualification.
- Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 2 qualification.
- GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics at Grade C/Grade 4 or above.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Engineering Maintenance, Production Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Training in problem-solving techniques, root cause analysis and team working.
Skills and Experience
- Strong welding and fabrication skills with the ability to produce work to a high standard.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, written instructions and specifications.
- Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines or trades.
- Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Competent IT skills for completing job records, reports and data entry.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
