About the opportunity
Momentum is looking for a highly experienced welding professional to lead and develop our welding tutors and assessors across multiple training centres. You will take operational responsibility for safe, consistent and effective welding delivery, while using your technical expertise to strengthen practical training and curriculum delivery.
This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role: alongside planning provision and supporting your team, you will deliver demonstrations, coach tutors and provide short-term teaching cover when needed. You will work closely with our Welding Quality & IQA Lead to turn quality feedback into meaningful improvements.
What you will do
- Lead, line manage, coach and develop welding tutors and assessors across our delivery centres.
- Coordinate training schedules, tutor deployment, cover arrangements, workshop capacity and resources.
- Lead the technical development and consistent use of welding Schemes of Work, lesson plans and practical resources.
- Provide expert support in MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA processes, including demonstrations and direct training cover when required.
- Monitor learner engagement, retention, achievement and progression, intervening early when delivery challenges arise.
- Promote safe welding workshops, working with site and health and safety colleagues on equipment, fume controls and safe practice.
- Implement delivery improvements arising from observations, IQA sampling, external reviews and learner feedback.
- Support new programmes, training locations and employer relationships, keeping training aligned with industry needs.
What we are looking for
- Substantial, current occupational experience in welding/fabrication and strong practical competence in MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA.
- Experience delivering or supervising practical welding training and the confidence to teach and demonstrate techniques.
- Proven ability to lead, coach or manage staff, including addressing performance and developing others.
- Strong organisation, communication and workshop safety knowledge, with the ability to coordinate multi-site provision.
- Willingness to travel regularly between training centres and maintain high expectations for learner outcomes.
A teaching or assessor qualification, Level 3 welding/engineering qualification, and experience with EAL or City & Guilds programmes would be advantageous, but are not all essential.
Working with Momentum
You will have the opportunity to influence how welding programmes are designed and delivered, while remaining closely involved in practical training and supporting the development of others. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and can discuss reasonable adjustments and working arrangements compatible with the role’s delivery and travel requirements.
How to apply
Please send your CV and a brief supporting statement outlining your welding experience, approach to leading people and any experience of vocational training. We would particularly welcome examples of how you have improved team performance or practical training standards.
