Welsh-Speaking KS1 Teaching Assistants – Support Children as They Begin Their School Journey

We are working with a Welsh-medium primary schools in Cardiff that are looking for enthusiastic and committed Welsh-speaking Teaching Assistants to support pupils in Key Stage 1.

We offer full-time, part-time, and flexible supply opportunities to suit your availability. You'll work alongside experienced teachers and school staff, gaining valuable hands-on experience supporting children aged 5–7 during an important stage of their education.

This role is ideal for anyone considering a future career in primary teaching, education, childcare, speech and language therapy, educational psychology, or other child-focused professions.

The Role

As a Welsh-speaking KS1 Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers to support pupils' learning, development, and wellbeing in a Welsh-medium classroom. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning through the medium of Welsh

  • Working with pupils individually, in small groups, or as part of the whole class

  • Supporting early reading, writing, numeracy, and language development

  • Encouraging pupils' confidence and engagement with the Welsh language

  • Helping children develop their social, emotional, and communication skills

  • Supporting pupils who may require additional learning or behavioural support

  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities, resources, and displays

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and creating a supportive learning environment

  • Supporting pupils during break times, lunch, and school activities where required

  • Building positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and wider school staff

  • Promoting children's wellbeing, safety, and inclusion at all times

What We're Looking For
  • Fluent Welsh speaker with strong communication skills

  • Passion for supporting children's learning and development

  • Caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach

  • Confident working with children aged 5–7

  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to work effectively as part of a team

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Previous classroom, childcare, or education experience is welcomed but not essential
