Fluent Welsh Nursery Teaching Assistant – Pontypool

Pay: £14.25 per hour

End Date: July 2027 (Confirmed)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (30-minute lunch)
Contract: Full-time (5 days per week)

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a Fluent Welsh Nursery Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming and supportive Welsh-medium primary school in the Pontypool area. This is a full-time role that has been confirmed from September 2026 through to July 2027, offering consistency and the opportunity to make a real difference during the children's first year of school.

The successful candidate will support pupils within the Nursery class, helping to create a nurturing, engaging and stimulating learning environment where every child can develop socially, emotionally and academically. The school prides itself on promoting the Welsh language and culture while providing children with a safe, inclusive and inspiring place to learn.

No two days are the same within Nursery. You'll support children through play-based learning, creative activities, outdoor learning and structured classroom routines, helping every child develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning.

The Role

As a Nursery Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, play-based learning activities in line with the Curriculum for Wales.
  • Help create a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels valued.
  • Encourage children's communication, language, social and emotional development through child-led and adult-led activities.
  • Support pupils both indoors and outdoors, encouraging exploration, creativity and independent learning.
  • Work with small groups and individual pupils to provide additional learning and pastoral support where required.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and maintain an organised learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
  • Follow the school's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
  • Promote the Welsh language and culture throughout the school day.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Are fluent in spoken and written Welsh (essential).
  • Have experience working with young children in a Nursery, Early Years or Primary setting (desirable but not essential).
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development.
  • Are enthusiastic, patient and nurturing in your approach.
  • Enjoy working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Are confident using your own initiative and adapting to the needs of individual pupils.
  • Have strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Are committed to providing every child with the best possible start to their educational journey.
  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related subject (desirable but not essential).
