If you have experience operating CNC machinery, wheel lathes, or maintaining heavy engineering equipment and you're looking for a specialist engineering role with long-term career prospects, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

This is a hands-on engineering position working a 3 on, 3 off shift pattern within one of the UK's leading rail freight maintenance operations, where you'll be responsible for the precision re-profiling of rail wheelsets to exact engineering tolerances.

We're keen to speak with experienced Wheel Lathe Operatives, but we're equally interested in engineers who have operated and maintained CNC machinery, heavy machine tools, or other large-scale industrial equipment. If you're comfortable working to tight tolerances, interpreting engineering documentation and take pride in producing high-quality work safely, you'll fit right in.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating a wheel lathe to re-profile railway wheelsets.
• Setting up and machining components to strict engineering tolerances.
• Carrying out operator-level maintenance and basic fault finding on wheel lathe equipment.
• Completing maintenance records and engineering documentation accurately.
• Working to controlled engineering procedures and safety standards.
• Assisting with workshop maintenance and supporting wider engineering activities when required.
• Maintaining a clean, organised workshop in line with 5S principles.
• Participating in ongoing training and competency development.
