Are you an experienced Children's Social Worker with a strong background in Connected Persons, Special Guardianship (SGO), and Family & Friends Assessments? We have an excellent agency opportunity with Wokingham Borough Council for a dedicated Family & Friends Assessing Social Worker to join their Children's Services team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in securing safe, stable, and permanent placements for children by completing high-quality assessments of family members and connected carers.

The Role

As a Family & Friends Assessing Social Worker, you will undertake a range of statutory assessments to support permanency planning for children, ensuring all work is completed in line with legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Connected Persons (Regulation 24) Assessments.
• Undertake Special Guardianship Order (SGO) Assessments.
• Complete Form K Assessments.
• Carry out Private Fostering Assessments.
• Undertake viability and full Family & Friends assessments.
• Provide supervision and support to families during the assessment process.
• Complete distance assessments for carers living outside the local authority where required.
• Work collaboratively with partner agencies to gather and analyse information.
• Produce high-quality, evidence-based assessment reports.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records.
• Attend professional meetings and court proceedings when required.
• Ensure all assessments are completed within statutory timescales, keeping the child's welfare at the centre of decision-making.

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification.
• Current Social Work England registration.
• Experience completing Connected Persons (Regulation 24), SGO, Form K, Family & Friends, and Private Fostering Assessments.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, fostering regulations, and children's social care practice.
• Excellent assessment, analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
