Working Foreman

Marshall Recruitment

Working Foreman / Assistant Manager – Cambridge

We’re looking for a Working Foreman / Assistant Manager to join an established construction team working on a range of refurbishment and construction projects across Cambridge.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced tradesperson who enjoys being hands-on while also taking responsibility for coordinating a site team and helping projects run smoothly. A background in carpentry would be ideal, although we’re open to candidates from other relevant construction trades.

You’ll be involved in projects ranging from around £100k up to £1 million, with the majority of the work being refurbishment projects. You’ll work closely with the Project Manager, subcontractors and clients, helping to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The role

  • Supervising and coordinating day-to-day activities on site

  • Working hands-on when required and leading by example

  • Coordinating subcontractors and site trades

  • Making sure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard

  • Helping keep projects on programme and meeting deadlines

  • Working closely with the Project Manager and wider team

  • Monitoring quality, workmanship and progress

  • Organising materials and liaising with suppliers

  • Maintaining site paperwork, daily records and relevant documentation

  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors and suppliers

  • Identifying and helping resolve issues as they arise on site

  • Supporting the Site/Project Manager with the day-to-day running of projects

About you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong construction trade background

  • Ideally has a carpentry background

  • Has experience supervising or leading trades on site

  • Is confident coordinating subcontractors and site teams

  • Is comfortable working hands-on as well as taking responsibility for the site

  • Takes pride in quality, workmanship and attention to detail

  • Is organised, reliable and practical

  • Communicates well with subcontractors, clients and colleagues

  • Has a good understanding of health & safety

  • Can take responsibility and use their initiative when problems arise

  • Is looking to develop their career into site management

You don’t necessarily need extensive Site Management experience. We’re particularly interested in someone with strong trade experience who has already taken on responsibility for supervising others and is ready to progress into a Working Foreman / Assistant Manager position.

The projects

Our work is predominantly refurbishment, with projects ranging from approximately £100k to £1 million. All projects are Cambridge based, so there is no requirement for regular nationwide travel.

This is an opportunity to join an established team where you can take on responsibility, remain involved in the practical side of construction and develop your management experience.

If you’re an experienced tradesperson, Working Foreman or Assistant Site Manager looking for the next step in your career, we’d like to hear from you.
