This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Works Manager with a strong civil engineering background to take responsibility for the successful delivery of enabling works and early-stage construction activities, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Agents, engineers and subcontractors.
The Role
As Works Manager, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with programme, specification and quality requirements.
The role will have a particular focus on enabling works, including the preparation and development of construction areas ahead of the main works.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing site teams and subcontractors across major civils projects.
- Overseeing enabling works and site establishment activities.
- Management and construction of haul roads, access routes and temporary works areas.
- Coordinating earthworks, excavation, material movements and site logistics.
- Ensuring plant, labour and materials are effectively planned and utilised.
- Working closely with Site Engineers to ensure works are constructed to specification.
- Monitoring progress against programme and identifying potential delays.
- Coordinating multiple work fronts and subcontract packages.
- Ensuring RAMS, ITPs and quality requirements are followed.
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
- Liaising with the Project Manager, Site Agent and client representatives.
- Supporting the planning and sequencing of upcoming construction activities.
About You
The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and major infrastructure projects, with previous experience managing site operations and enabling works.
You should have experience with:
- Major civils/infrastructure schemes.
- Enabling works and site preparation.
- Haul road construction and site access.
- Earthworks and bulk excavation.
- Temporary works and construction logistics.
- Managing subcontractors and site teams.
- Working to demanding programmes and construction schedules.
- Strong understanding of health & safety and quality requirements.
- Previous experience working for a main contractor or Tier 1/Tier 2 civils contractor.
SMSTS and CSCS are essential, with relevant temporary works and environmental experience advantageous.
