Responsibilities of a Workshop Controller

As Workshop Controller, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring vehicles move efficiently through the repair process while maintaining the highest standards of quality, productivity and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and control the daily workshop schedule to maximise efficiency.
  • Allocate work to Panel Beaters, Paint Sprayers, MET Technicians and Vehicle Preparation staff.
  • Monitor repair progress and ensure agreed completion dates are achieved.
  • Liaise with Vehicle Damage Assessors, Parts Advisors and Customer Service Advisors to keep repairs on track.
  • Manage workshop productivity, technician utilisation and quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve workflow issues to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure repairs are completed in line with manufacturer methods and health & safety requirements.
  • Maintain excellent communication with both customers and internal teams.
  • Support, motivate and develop workshop staff to achieve performance targets


Requirements for a Workshop Controller

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Previous experience as a Workshop Controller within an Accident Repair Centre or Body Shop.
  • Excellent knowledge of accident repair processes.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads in a busy environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A focus on quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Experience using body shop management systems is advantageous
