Howard James Recruitment is supporting our client with the appointment of an experienced Workshop Controller in the Cheshire area. This is a hands-on position with responsibility for coordinating a varied workshop operation and ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
The Role
Working across multiple specialist workshop areas within the leisure vehicle sector, you will manage the day-to-day flow of work, coordinate technicians and act as a key link between the workshop and Service Advisors. This is an active role on the workshop floor rather than a desk-based management position.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate technicians and allocate workloads across different workshop areas.
- Monitor job progress, identify delays and bottlenecks, and take action to keep work moving.
- Monitor and improve workshop productivity and efficiency.
- Motivate technicians, manage performance and support the achievement of performance targets.
- Ensure technicians have the information, parts and resources required to complete their work.
- Coordinate the movement of vehicles around the site.
- Maintain clear communication between technicians and Service Advisors, ensuring issues, delays and additional requirements are shared promptly.
- Monitor workshop health and safety, including PPE, safe working practices, housekeeping and access routes.
- Identify and address hazards or unsafe practices to help maintain a safe environment for staff, customers and visitors.
About You
You will be an organised, practical and confident workshop professional who is comfortable coordinating people and making decisions in a busy environment. You will be able to build effective working relationships with technicians while also challenging inefficiencies and maintaining standards.
- Previous experience as a Workshop Controller or in a similar workshop supervisory or management role.
- Experience managing or coordinating technicians.
- A sound understanding of workshop operations, productivity and efficiency.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- The confidence to motivate people and manage performance.
- A good understanding of workplace health and safety.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and respond effectively to changing demands.
- Experience in a caravan, motorhome, automotive or similar service or workshop environment.
- A full driving licence, as the role involves regularly moving vehicles around the site.
