Overview

We are recruiting for a Workshop Engineer based in Manchester.

This is a hands-on mechanical engineering role focused on the inspection, servicing, repair, overhaul and testing of pumps and associated equipment within a busy workshop environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring customer equipment is maintained to the highest standards and returned to service safely and efficiently.

This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Fitter, Workshop Engineer, Pump Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Service Technician looking for a stable, long-term position with opportunities for development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strip, inspect, service and rebuild a wide range of pumps and rotating equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs.
  • Perform pressure testing, performance testing and equipment inspections.
  • Assemble, disassemble and overhaul mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service, repair and testing records.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Support workshop organisation, stock control and housekeeping activities.
  • Assist field service engineers when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the workshop.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical engineering background.
  • Previous experience carrying out equipment strip-downs, repairs and rebuilds.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on pumps, motors or rotating equipment.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge.
  • Experience within water, utilities, manufacturing, process or industrial environments.
  • NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Please Note

This role is best suited to candidates from a mechanical workshop, pumps, rotating equipment, industrial maintenance or mechanical fitting background. Candidates with experience exclusively in automotive repair, building services maintenance or construction trades are unlikely to be suitable.
