Automotive Workshop Manager: About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Automotive Workshop Manager to lead our Ground Support Equipment (GSE) maintenance operation at Heathrow Airport.
This role is ideally suited to a Workshop Manager with experience in automotive, HGV, commercial vehicle, fleet, plant, or heavy equipment maintenance environments. You will be responsible for managing workshop operations, leading a team of technicians, ensuring fleet availability, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Automotive Workshop Manager Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of a busy engineering workshop.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of technicians and engineers.
- Oversee maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and associated vehicles.
- Ensure maximum fleet availability while minimising downtime.
- Plan and allocate workshop resources effectively.
- Monitor workshop performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, health and safety requirements, and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Work closely with operational teams to support business requirements.
- Promote a positive safety culture and high standards of workmanship throughout the workshop.
Automotive Workshop Manager Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Workshop Manager, Fleet Maintenance Manager, Engineering Supervisor, Service Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Strong background in automotive, commercial vehicle, HGV, plant, fleet, or engineering maintenance environments.
- Experience managing and developing workshop teams.
- Excellent organisational, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 3 penalty points).
Automotive Workshop Manager Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with diesel and electric vehicles.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding.
- Experience within airport, aviation, logistics, fleet, transport, or heavy equipment operations.
- Understanding of workshop KPIs, fleet maintenance planning, and asset management.
