Workshop Operative – Engineering Assembly

Location: Norwich, NR6
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00
Pay Rate: £13.36 per hour (depending on experience)

About the Role

Select Recruitment is currently looking for a practical and hands-on Workshop Operative to join a busy and established engineering and manufacturing business based in Norwich.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in engineering, mechanical assembly or manufacturing who enjoys working with their hands and taking pride in producing high-quality products.

You will be working as part of a friendly workshop team, assisting with the construction, fabrication and assembly of specialist products using a variety of hand and power tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Assembling and constructing products and components using hand and power tools.
• Fabricating and fitting smaller sub-assemblies ready for final production.
• Reading and following basic engineering drawings, instructions and specifications.
• Using workshop tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Checking finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Identifying and reporting any damaged or defective materials or products.
• Working alongside other workshop colleagues to meet production deadlines.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in mechanical assembly, engineering or a manufacturing environment.
• A practical and hands-on approach with a genuine interest in engineering.
• Comfortable using hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to understand basic engineering drawings and instructions.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
• Reliable, organised and able to work well as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to learn new skills.

Formal engineering qualifications or an NVQ in Mechanical Manufacturing would be beneficial but are not essential for the right candidate.
