Workshop Supervisor

Location: Manchester
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00am – 5:30pm
Salary: £46,000 - £48,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience)

Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join their busy commercial vehicle maintenance operation in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician with leadership experience to take the next step in their career, overseeing workshop activities while ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting workshop operations, managing technicians, maintaining vehicle roadworthiness standards, and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate workshop personnel to ensure efficient day-to-day operations
  • Plan workloads effectively and allocate tasks to maximise productivity
  • Monitor workshop performance and support the ongoing development of team members

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, repairs, and inspections on commercial vehicles and equipment
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with DVSA and manufacturer standards
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, body, and chassis systems
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and ensure roadworthiness compliance

Customer Service & Administration

  • Act as a key point of contact for customers, providing regular updates on vehicle progress
  • Prepare repair estimates and quotations as required
  • Oversee job planning and workshop scheduling to ensure deadlines are met
  • Review and sign off completed work, ensuring service documentation is accurate and up to date
  • Monitor and manage workshop work-in-progress (WIP)

Compliance & Health & Safety

  • Ensure all workshop activities comply with company procedures and legal requirements
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and inspection documentation
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and maintain high housekeeping standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the workshop

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience within a commercial vehicle maintenance or repair environment
  • Strong knowledge of HGVs, RCVs, and other commercial vehicles
  • Experience carrying out both body and chassis repairs
  • Previous experience supervising or leading workshop teams is advantageous

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Valid HGV Licence

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical information
  • Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment
