Job Purpose
The Yard Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and organised operation of the company's yard, ensuring all plant, equipment, materials and formwork systems are received, stored, maintained and dispatched to projects on time. The role supports operational delivery by maintaining accurate stock control, managing yard personnel and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.
Yard Operations
- Manage the day-to-day running of the company yard.
- Plan and coordinate deliveries and collections to and from construction sites.
- Ensure plant, tools and equipment are available to meet project requirements.
- Maintain an organised, clean and safe working environment.
- Oversee loading and unloading of vehicles.
- Manage traffic movement within the yard.
Stock & Asset Management
- Maintain accurate inventory of:
- Plant and machinery
- Hand tools
- Temporary works equipment
- Formwork systems (Peri, Doka, RMD, etc.)
- Falsework and propping equipment
- Reinforcement accessories
- PPE
- Consumables
- Carry out regular stock checks and audits.
- Monitor losses and damages.
- Ensure all equipment is returned, inspected and recorded.
Plant & Equipment
- Arrange servicing, inspections and repairs.
- Maintain service schedules and inspection records.
- Ensure LOLER and PUWER inspections remain current.
- Coordinate breakdown repairs.
- Monitor plant utilisation.
Logistics
- Schedule transport requirements.
- Liaise with site teams regarding deliveries and collections.
- Coordinate third-party haulage companies.
- Ensure delivery paperwork is completed accurately.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have a strong background in reinforced concrete frame construction, with practical knowledge of plant, formwork and site logistics. They will be a hands-on manager capable of leading a busy yard operation while maintaining high standards of safety, organisation and efficiency. The role requires someone who can effectively support multiple live projects, minimise downtime through excellent asset management, and ensure materials and equipment are available when needed to keep construction programmes on track.
