Yard Operative – Job Specification
Location: Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, GL56
Yard Operative Overview
We are recruiting for a Yard Operative for a leading manufacturer of diesel fuel storage tanks and fuel management systems based in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, GL56.
Working Hours: 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, Rate of Pay: 14 per hour (£29,120 per year), plus overtime
Working Outdoor and indoor yard-based environment, some lifting and manual handling required, Use of PPE: gloves, boots, high-vis, hard hat, eye/ear protection, Occasional overtime during busy periods
Yard Operative Role Purpose
To support the safe and efficient handling, preparation, maintenance, and movement of fuel tank waste and associated equipment within the yard.
The Yard Operative will ensure all waste tanks, tools, and materials are correctly processed, cleaned, stored, loaded, and maintained in line with company procedures and safety regulations.
Yard Operative Key Responsibilities
Yard Operations
- Assist with the loading and unloading of fuel waste, equipment, and materials using forklifts
- Support the stripping, cleaning, and preparation of hire fuel tanks prior to delivery to new sites or cleaning of returned tanks
- Carry out minor maintenance, grinding, sanding, and painting tasks on tanks
- Assist with maintenance/upgrade projects
- Maintain yard organisation, ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe working environment
Equipment & Tools
- Carry out routine checks on yard tools and equipment
- Report damaged or faulty equipment immediately to the Environmental Manager
Logistics & Stock
- Support stock control of fittings, hoses, pipework, valves, and consumables (used by the Confined space crew)
- Assist drivers with vehicle loading, securing loads, and paperwork
Yard Operative Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Practical, hands-on background in a yard environment
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment
- Good understanding of safe manual handling
- Physically fit and able to handle moderate/heavy equipment
- Good attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn
Desirable
- Forklift licence (Counterbalance or Telehandler)
- Experience using grinders, sanders, pressure washers, or gantries
- Basic mechanical knowledge
Qualifications
Required
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to undertake training (e.g., forklift, jetting, confined space in time)
